DWC hydroponic systems are the only systems that require an air pump, to the root of the plants to be submerged with nutrients. The oxygen passes through the air pump into the diffuser, which, on the other hand, breaks the airflow into tiny pieces that are easier for the roots to dissolve and absorb.
